Proud to Eat All-American
I have just returned from a cross-country trip and I have developed a theory of what makes America great: Ribs, burgers and pizza.
Goodfella's Brick Oven Pizza opened in Staten Island in 1993. Last August the Bay Ridge unit opened with one of the largest wood-burning brick ovens in the country, measuring 12-by-8 feet. Goodfella's ahs won the Best Pizza award twice in a contest sponsored by Pizza & Pasta Magazine.
Of course, Goodfella's is much more than pizza. There is also a full line of pasta, salads, sandwiches and chicken dishes. But let's get down to the business at hand: Pizza. There is the traditional New York Pizza, which offers a base of tomato sauce and homemade mozzarella. Large 8-slice pies are $10 and the 4-slice individual pie is $5.50. There are a dozen gourmet pizzas. All are priced at $8.95 for small size and $14.95 for large. The prize-winning Pizza a la Vodka is made with fresh mozzarella, vodka cream sauce, mushrooms, peas and prosciutto. Other choices include white clam pie, grilled chicken, puttanesca (with artichoke hearts, black olives and capers); quattro formaggi (with four cheeses), and de mauceri (stuffed with spinach, ricotta, garlic and spices).
