Wager Gets Rudy a Pizza the Action
by Tracey Tully

In a bet on whether Cleveland or the Yankees will win the pennant, Mayor Giuliani is putting his pizza where his mouth is.

In the unlikely event the Bronx Bombers lose to the Indians in the best-of-seven American League  Championship series that opens tonight, Giuliani has agreed to ship Cleveland Mayor Michael White a bundle of New York delicacies, including 10 pizza pies from Goodfella's Pizza on Staten Island -- a place Hizzoner called his "favorite place for pizza."

He'll also toss in tickets to the Metropolitan Opera and dessert:  Bronx-baked Stella D'Oro pastries.  Win or lose, White's getting a Yankee cap, Giuliani said.

The mayor said it will be the best pizza White has ever tasted.

Jay Myers, co-owner of Goodfella's, said that if White wants to sample a slice of the pie Giuliani often orders on his frequent visits " pizza a la vodka " he'll have to buy it.

"There's no chance they're winning," Myers said before confessing to a fear that the pizza incentive could give the Indians the boost they need to beat the Bombers.

A Yankee win will mean Hizzoner will walk away with tickets to Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Orchestra, and a bellyful of microbrew beer and Polish sausage.

"The Yankees are on their way to the World Series, and I’m looking forward to a sausage dinner when its over," Giuliani said.

He expects to be able to wear his new ten-gallon hat during the feast -- part of the booty from last week's sporting wager with Mayor Elzie Odom of Arlington, Texas.  The Texas headgear and the slab of barbecue he won after the Yankees' three-game sweep over the Texas Rangers should arrive any day, Giuliani said.
